YEAR 11 SIXTH FORM APPLICATION PROCESS FOR SEPTEMBER 2020 ADMISSIONS:

Important dates for your diary:

  • Closing date for all applications: 27th January 2020
  • Sixth Form Induction Sessions: Tuesday 7th July – Friday 10th July 2020 inclusive

External applicants: Applications for September 2020 are now closed.

Internal Students: During registration on Monday 20th January students in Year 11 will be asked to confirm their post 16 destination intentions on a form. They will also be able to indicate the 3 or 4 subjects they wish to study at The Math. At the end of registration these forms will be passed to The Sixth Form Team. Anyone absent on the 20th January can complete the form later in the week.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

SIXTH FORM ENTRY CRITERIA – SEPTEMBER 2020

  • Five GCSE grades at 5 or higher , including a 5 for Mathematics and English.
  • An average GCSE points score of 5.5, or better.
  • The subject specific entry criteria for each chosen option, as noted below.

Course

Entry criteria – we offer 19 A level options

Art

Grade 6 or higher in GCSE Art.

Biology

Grade 7 in GCSE Biology or Grades 7 and 7 in GCSE Combined Science.

Chemistry

Grade 7 in GCSE Chemistry or Grades 7 and 7 in GCSE Combined Science.

Classical Civilisation

Grade 6 or higher in English plus a 6 in a related discipline (such as History or a language).

Computer Science

Grade 7 GCSE Computing and Mathematics

Design & Technology

Grade 6 or higher in GCSE Design Technology or equivalent.

Economics

Grade 6 or higher in GCSE Economics. Students who have not studied Economics at GCSE can gain entry via a Grade 6 in both Mathematics and English.

English Literature

Grade 6 or higher in GCSE English Language and Literature.

Geography

Grade 6 or higher in GCSE Geography.

Government & Politics

Grade 6 or higher in GCSE English and a related subject- History/Geography/Economics.

History

Grade 6 or higher in GCSE History.

Mathematics

Grade 7 or higher in GCSE Mathematics.

Further Mathematics

Grade 8 or higher in GCSE Mathematics.

Modern Foreign Language(French, Spanish)

Grade 6 or higher in the associated language at GCSE.

Music

Grade 6 or higher in GCSE Music, a Grade 4 on an instrument or voice and fluency at reading both the treble and bass clefs.

PE

Grade 6 or higher in GCSE PE in addition to representing either a school or club consistently in one sport. Students who have not studied GCSE PE can gain entry via a grade 6 in English and a grade 6 in a Science.

Physics

Grade 7 in GCSE Physics or Grades 7 and 7 in GCSE Combined Science.

Psychology

Grade 6 or higher in GCSE English and a Grade 6 in a GCSE Science subject.

Performance Academy Options

Rugby Academy

Players are selected for the academy based on ability and potential.

Hockey, Cricket, Netball Academy

Whilst students are not selected based on ability, there is an expectation that they will make an unwavering commitment to work towards 1st and 2nd Team selection.

Music Academy

Students are required to have a keen interest in pursuing their musical development, with a willingness to present their work to a variety of audiences.

Drama Academy

Students are required to have a keen interest in pursuing their dramatic development, with a willingness to present their work to a variety of audiences.

CURRENT YEAR 11

Our Current Year 11’s have no formal application process. They will be asked to specify if they want to join our Sixth Form and the subjects they wish to study.
