Oversubscription Criteria

Where there are more learners seeking places than the number of places available, the over-subscription criteria will be applied in the order set out below to rank pupils until the overall figure for the year group is reached.

  1. Looked after children (children in public care) and previously looked after children, and children previously in Care outside of England – Children who appear to Medway Council to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted. A child is regarded as having been in state care in a place outside of England if they were accommodated by a public authority, a religious organisation or any other provider of care whose sole purpose is to benefit society.
  2. Children who will have a brother or sister (including children living as siblings in the same family unit) on the roll of the school at the time of the sibling’s admission.
  3. Children who at the time of application have a parent who is a member of staff at the school (where the member of staff has been employed for three years or more at the time at which the application for admission is made and/or where the member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage).
  4. Nearness of children’s homes.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Sixth Form Entry Criteria – September 2024

  • Five GCSE grades at 5 or higher , including a 5 for Mathematics and English.
  • An average GCSE points score of 5.5, or better.
  • The subject specific entry criteria for each chosen option, as noted below.
  • In order for you to study four subjects you must have an APS of 8.0

Course

Entry criteria – we offer 21 A level options

Fine Art or Photography Lens based media

Grade 6 or higher in GCSE Art.

Biology

Grade 7 in GCSE Biology or Grades 7 and 7 in GCSE Combined Science.

Chemistry

Grade 7 in GCSE Chemistry or Grades 7 and 7 in GCSE Combined Science.

Classical Civilisation

Grade 6 or higher in English plus a 6 in a related discipline (such as History or a language).

Computer Science

Grade 7 GCSE Computing and Mathematics

Design & Technology

Grade 6 or higher in GCSE Design Technology or equivalent.
Drama & Theatre Studies Grade 6 or higher in GCSE Drama. Students who have not studied Drama at GCSE can gain entry via a Grade 6 in English and experience in performing arts/design will be considered subject to audition/interview

Economics

Grade 6 or higher in GCSE Economics + a GCSE grade 5 in both English and Mathematics. Students who have not studied Economics at GCSE can gain entry via a Grade 6 in both Mathematics and English.

English Literature

Grade 6 or higher in GCSE English Literature.

Geography

Grade 6 or higher in GCSE Geography.

Government & Politics

Grade 6 or higher in GCSE English and a related subject- History/Geography/Economics.

History

Grade 6 or higher in GCSE History.

Mathematics

Grade 7 or higher in GCSE Mathematics.

Further Mathematics

Grade 8 or higher in GCSE Mathematics.

Modern Foreign Language(French, Spanish)

Grade 6 or higher in the associated language at GCSE.

Music

Grade 6 or higher in GCSE Music, a Grade 5/6 on an instrument or voice and fluency at reading both the treble and bass clefs. 

Physical Education

Grade 6 or higher in GCSE PE in addition to representing either a school or club consistently in one sport. Students who have not studied GCSE PE can gain entry via a grade 6 in English and a grade 6 in a Science.

Physics

Grade 7 in GCSE Physics or Grades 7 and 7 in GCSE Combined Science.

Psychology

Grade 6 or higher in GCSE English and a Grade 6 in a GCSE Science subject.

Performance Academy Options

Rugby Academy

Players are selected for the academy based on ability and potential.

Hockey, Cricket, Netball Academy

Whilst students are not selected based on ability, there is an expectation that they will make an unwavering commitment to work towards 1st and 2nd Team selection.

Music Academy

Students are required to have a keen interest in pursuing their musical development, with a willingness to present their work to a variety of audiences.

Drama Academy

Students are required to have a keen interest in pursuing their dramatic development, with a willingness to present their work to a variety of audiences.
