Year 11 students at the Rochester Math School celebrated a year of superb results this week.
In the benchmark ‘Progress 8’ measure, the school expects to achieve +0.59. This means that, on average, students have achieved more than half a grade better than expected in each of their subjects.
45% of all grades were at 7-9, up from 40% last year.
99.7% achieved a good pass in English and Mathematics, while 93% gained a strong pass in both subjects. The average grade per GCSE course taken by the students is a 6.38, which is the same as a B+.
59% of all grades in Mathematics were at the top 7-9 band, and 50% of those in English.
The average grade achieved across the ‘Ebacc’ group of subjects was 6.38, also a B+.
The ‘Attainment 8’ measure, average pupil achievement across 8 qualifications, including English and Maths and at least 3 other English Baccalaureate qualifications is 66.
The highest individual performances were recorded by Jonathan Saunders with 10 grade 9 and an A* distinction, followed by James Alcock with 8 grade 9, 1 grade 8, 1 grade 7 and an A* and then Oliver Branch with 7 grade 9, 2 grade 8, 1 grade 7 and an A*. Vinay Vijayamohan gained 6 grade 9, 3 grade 8, 1 grade 7 and an A* distinction, while Aadesh Gupta secured 7 grade 9, 1 grade 8, 1 grade 7, 1 grade 6 and an A* distinction. James Shimmins gained 6 grade 9, 2 grade 8 and 2 grade 7 and an A*. Moyosore Odesanya obtained 5 grade 9, 4 grade 8, 1 grade 7 and an A, and Michael Fankah achieved 5 grade 9, 2 grade 8, 3 grade 7 and an A*. Konyin Joshua secured 4 grade 9, 3 grade 8, 3 grade 7 and an A*. Miles Archer gained 2 grade 9, 6 grade 8, 2 grade 7 and an A*, while Akshay Krishnakumar gained 5 grade 9, 5 grade 7 and an A* distinction. Henry Salter obtained 5 grade 9, 1 grade 8, 3 grade 7, 1 grade 6 and an A*.
Overall, 54 students, nearly 30% of the whole year group, avoided any grade lower than a 6.
Eliot Hodges, Headteacher, said ‘I’m proud of the successes our students have achieved. I’m particularly delighted that so many gained the top grades because this was a target for us and places our students in a very strong position for sixth form study’.
