Welcome to SJWMS BBC School Report.  Our dedicated news team meets every Wednesday after-school to gather and report on news that is relevant to our students.  You can also find us by looking on the BBC School Report website and finding us on their school map!

On Thursday 7th March 2019, SJWMS Young Reporters completed a full day of reporting for their real BBC News Day.  They were dedicated, hardworking and great team players, helping each other every step of the way.  They worked hard to produce this year’s news programme covering the following topics:  World Book Day 2019, the cult of the celebrity, a rise in knife crime in the UK, VAR in sport and should the internet be more tightly censored?

On Thursday 7th February, the SJWMS BBC School Report team completed a practice news day.  This means working as a team to create a full news programme including a range of topics.  This requires extensive research, filming interviews and creating articles, and a lengthy editing process.  The students worked tirelessly all day to produce a packed programming including items such as: Does social media affect your mental health (Fortnite and Instagram), should the school day begin later (at 10am)? Alongside this, some new recruits to the team discuss recent YouTubers toppling from fame.  Please find our full news programme on our YouTube.

The School Report team has covered a wide range of topics from their interview with gold Paralympic medallist David Weir and their tour of the Human Research Labs, to insights on the controversial issue of whether tackling in school rugby should be banned.  We’ve also covered Sport Relief, Tim Peake’s space mission, whether technology is overpriced and much more.

Close up of Ryan from the BBC Team at SJWMS

Hello my name’s Ryan and I’m 13 years old. My house is 9 Bridge. I started my journey through BBC School Report in year 7 but now my current role in the team is Chief Story Border and that means before any one goes out to interview or film they have to come to me, so that I can make sure that it is all planed out. My previous experience in reporting are that I was in School Report last year and that I went to the Guardian to create a professional front cover of a newspaper. I personally would be interested in reporting on Donald Trump and whether or not he makes a good president for not only the sake of America but for the sake of the world.

Close up of Adam from the BBC Team at SJWMS

Hi, I’m Adam, and I am 13 years old. I belong to 8 bridge and I have always had a passion for English. I only just joined this year, after winning a trip to The Guardian last year, courtesy of a fictional report I made up for a project. I thought it seemed fun, and a good way to keep doing English, so I applied and now I’m here. I don’t have a specific role, persay, but I do enjoy writing about crime and, to some extent scandal, although it has to be relevant – I don’t care if Kim Kardashian has a new hairstyle, and I haven’t been eating coconut wrong my entire life. But if there’s a mass shooting in Las Vegas and Trump is refusing to talk about gun control, that’s when I write.

Close up of Taran from the BBC Team at SJWMS

Hello, my name is Taran and I am 12 years old. My house is 7 Thetford. My main job is video editing to see what needs to be tweaked then edit it. I have plenty of experience from running my own YouTube channel for the past two years. What I enjoy the most about video editing is that there are no limits and you can be as creative as you want. I am a confident individual that enjoys reading, technology and politics.

Close up of Ognyan from the BBC Team at SJWMS

Hello, my name is Ognyan and I am a new member of the BBC School Report Team! I am 14 years old and I am in 9 Bridge. I was very enthusiastic to enrol myself as a member, because I love writing. I engage in researching news topics which would be relevant to the school. I like making articles on these topics; although I do enjoy presenting too, as I love being around the camera! English is one of my favourite subjects and I would like to help around creating news articles in an engaging way for the pupils at our school.

Close up of Matthew from the BBC Team at SJWMS

I am Matthew and I really enjoy BBC school report as it lets me show my love of news and current global issues. I have a subscription to multiple newspapers (including the guardian and the New York Times) because I really enjoy reading them. I enjoy reporting and I see that it more than just a fun pastime.
